Find Out The Plus Points of Home Solar Power Systems

With the increased focus on alternative energy, like solar power, many people are beginning to wonder just how does solar power work? Some of the concerns of consumers is whether or not this is something that they can implement in their own lives effectively and will it work to meet their needs. The answer is yes, and if you think about it we have been putting the sun to work for us for centuries but only now have we been able to harness it for power.
But how can we actually use solar power?

Home Solar Power Systems
Converting light into electricity is the most popular way of using solar panels. Solar power calculators are a prime example of using solar power technology, but the majority of people never stopped to consider the possibilities. In what way does this solar power really work? When you set-up the solar panels then catch the sun light, then convert it into energy. One square meter of panels will harness enough power to run a hundred watt light bulb.

Although it does not sound like a lot, think about how much unused spaced you have on your roof right now. Without taking up any usable space, solar panels allow you to harness the free power from the sun.

Another useful system are solar water heaters. Hot water is produced by using the solar power from the sun to heat the water. By painting the pipes a dark colour so as to absorb the heat from the sun, the water inside the pipe also heats up, therefore producing hot water. 90% of a home’s hot water is what some companies claim their water heaters can supply. One of the very few downsides to this system is that the water pipes have to be drained in winter to stop the pipes from freezing, although some copies make this easier to handle by providing built-in systems that take care of this.

A third kind of solar power are solar furnaces. Focusing the sun’s rays in the main job of a solar furnace. Does this type of solar power work effectively? By focusing the rays, you are able to achieve very hot temperatures. Some scientists have used this type of heating to reach temperatures over 5400 degrees Fahrenheit. This kind of heating can take quite a while, but if you have plenty of time it can be a fantastic way to heat things at very little cost proving again the benefit of installing home solar power systems.

As the technology for solar cells gets better and better, this form of clean, renewable energy will find more applications that take up less space and produce more electricity, to meet the energy needs of our homes, schools and businesses.
